This morning, I sat in meditation, busy doing nothing.Eyes closed, heart open, breath steady. A gentle smile touched my face. I whispered loving kindness, felt the divine flow of love throughout my body, then it quickly faded. Sleep pulled at me— head bobbed, thoughts swirled. No insights. No visions. No grand encounter with God. Only nothing. Nothing. And more nothing. When the chime rang, a quiet ache lingered— a dull, steady emptiness pulsed deep within my soul. “Stay with it,” my mentor had said. “This ache is your holy longing— the part of you that reaches for God. God’s longing is whole and complete, meeting you where you are, as you are. It’s your heart whispering, ‘I miss you,’ and God’s gentle reply, ‘I’m here with you. Now. Always.’” For a moment, my mind protested, “You’ve wasted an hour.” But my soul knew better. In the empty stillness, in the void of nothingness, I felt eternal desire. God and I shared infinite longing. I tasted God’s heart. God tasted mine. —brian j plachta brianplachta.com |
