This week, we pull it all together, discovering how to escape the noise of daily life and step into the Divine Flow contemplative lifestyle, where you can hear God’s voice and experience inner peace daily.
Ready to explore how Divine Flow can become your rhythm of life—a path beyond noise and into God’s presence? Let’s dive in.

Escape the Noise
Most of us begin our days swallowed by noise.
Our minds race. Our hearts tighten. We scroll through our phones before we’ve even taken a breath.
And beneath it all, a quiet longing throbs in our hearts:
I want to feel close to God.
I want peace.
I want clarity.
I want to come home to myself.
But the world is loud. And silence—true, inner silence—feels hard to achieve.
When we don’t create space for stillness, something subtle but painful happens:
- Our monkey minds keep chattering.
- Our hearts stay guarded.
- We live from reaction instead of Presence.
- We forget the Divine dwells within us—closer than our breath.
Over time, this inner disconnection becomes normalized. We assume life must be stressful, fragmented, rushed.
But beneath the noise, God is always whispering:
Be still.
Come home.
I’m here.

The Thin Red Thread Between Our Hearts and God’s Heart
Decades ago, I tried to think my way to God—checking all the religious boxes, doing everything “right,” and hoping that effort alone would create intimacy with God.
It didn’t. I just grew more frustrated, overwhelmed, and out of touch with myself and God.
It wasn’t until a retreat director invited me into daily stillness—quiet time with God—that everything shifted.
He described the contemplative path as a “thin red thread” connecting our human hearts to God’s Divine Heart. A spiritual umbilical cord.
When we sit in silence—breathing, smiling gently, holding a prayer word—the mind settles, the nervous system softens, and that inner thread begins to pulsate with God’s grace and love.
In that inner quiet, something beautiful happens:
The heart opens.
The Spirit whispers.
And we experience God not as theory—but as Presence.

What’s the Divine Flow Lifestyle?
This simple daily Quiet Time practice became the foundation for a lifestyle called Divine Flow.
Divine Flow is the modern language for the ancient contemplative path Jesus lived and taught.
It’s the path of discovering we are already one with the Divine Spirit who opens our hearts, allowing us to experience inner peace, balance, and wholeness.
Living in Divine Flow offers these benefits:
- Stress gives way to clarity
- Anxiety gives way to inner steadiness
- Loneliness gives way to companionship
- Self-doubt gives way to a deeper sense of identity
- And your relationship with God becomes real, intimate, and alive
You begin living from the inside out.

A Brief History of the Contemplative Lifestyle
(From my upcoming book, Divine Flow: Reclaiming the Lost Art of Contemplation for Everyday Life, Whitaker House June 2026)
The contemplative lifestyle is not new—it’s woven into the history of our faith traditions.
Jesus modeled it.
He regularly withdrew to deserted places to pray, to listen, and to reconnect with the Father (Luke 5:16). His rhythm of action and withdrawal formed the earliest blueprint for what would become known as the contemplative way.
The early Christians followed this pattern. The Desert Mothers and Fathers retreated into simplicity and silence, teaching that stillness was essential for hearing God’s voice—echoing the psalmist’s invitation:
“Be still and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10
As the centuries unfolded, monasteries shaped daily life around this contemplative rhythm—prayer, sacred reading, work, and inner stillness.
But over time, everyday people drifted from these ancient practices. Spirituality became more about doing than being—more about believing ideas than experiencing Presence.
Yet the hunger never went away.
Today, many long to recover this lost art—a way of life where God becomes real, felt, and near.
Divine Flow is a modern doorway back into this ancient contemplative lifestyle—accessible to anyone, anywhere, every single day.
Living in Divine Flow is like bathing in a warm summer lake, feeling the Divine Spirit wash over you with life-giving grace and tender, soothing love.

The Four Pillars of Wholeness
To live the Divine Flow Lifestyle in a grounded, sustainable way, you integrate the Four Pillars of Wholeness into your daily rhythm—simple practices that become the essential building blocks for a spiritually healthy and happy life.
Each pillar strengthens a different dimension of your spiritual journey and anchors you in God’s presence. And the fun thing is you get to integrate these practices in a way that best fits your unique personality and life.

Meet the Four Pillars of Wholeness:
1. Quiet Time—The Pillar of Stillness
Quiet Time is your daily practice of sitting with God—breathing, softening the body, gently using a prayer word, and letting the mind sink into the heart.
In this stillness, inner noise dissolves and you reconnect with the Divine Presence dwelling within you. Here, your soul finds rest, your mind gains clarity, and divine guidance gently unfolds.

2. Spiritual Reading—The Pillar of Wisdom
Sacred reading nourishes the soul. Scripture, wisdom teachings, spiritual classics—and even inspirational podcasts or audiobooks—awaken truth within you, expand your inner compass, and help you discern God’s voice from the world’s noise.
This is the spiritual food your soul needs to give you a feast of daily wisdom and insights.

3. Community—The Pillar of Connection and Wise Counsel
The spiritual journey cannot be lived alone.
We need companions—people who listen, reflect, encourage, and help us remember who we truly are when life gets heavy. We also seek wise counsel, just as Scripture reminds us: Where there is no guidance, a people fall, but in many counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14).
Community turns spirituality into a shared pilgrimage rather than a private struggle.
Wise counsel keeps us grounded, guided, and supported as we walk the path of Divine Flow.

4. Spiritual Gifts—The Pillar of Purpose
Every person carries God-given gifts, and when we discover and use them, our lives align with the deeper calling God has placed within us. We use our gifts in life-giving ways to make the world a better place.
Your gifts—whether compassion, creativity, leadership, encouragement, teaching, hospitality, or quiet presence—are sacred tools for serving the world.
This pillar helps you live your faith outwardly, turning contemplation into loving action.

Where Do I Start? Begin with Pillar One—Quiet Time
Don’t try to master all four pillars at once.
Start small.
Start tender.
Start where Jesus and the saints began.
Begin with just five minutes of Quiet Time each day.
Sit.
Breathe.
Hold a gentle prayer word.
Let yourself be loved.

As Quiet Time becomes a daily rhythm, the other pillars will naturally unfold—one graceful step at a time.
This is how the Divine Flow Lifestyle takes root:
One breath.
One moment.
One pillar at a time.

Your Turn: Step Into Divine Flow
Here’s your invitation for the week—simple, joyful, and doable:
Take a few minutes each day just for you and God.
- Sit.
- Smile.
- Breathe deeply.
- Whisper a prayer word or phrase like, “I am loved.”
- Let your heart soften.
- Let God meet you right there.
If your mind wanders—which it will—simply notice it and gently come back to your smile and your prayer word or phrase. No judgment. Just return. The mind can hold only one thought at a time, so each gentle return is a small step back into Presence.

Stick with this simple practice each day, even for a few minutes. Over time, you’ll start to notice quiet shifts: ordinary moments feel lighter, conversations feel more spacious, and you begin to sense a calm beneath the noise.
And remember: you’ve never been far from God—not for a single breath. Heaven isn’t a distant realm; it opens right inside you when you pause, soften, and turn inward.
You’re literally one breath away from Divine Flow… because the truth is, you and God are already One.
