| As we prepared for our oldest child’s first holy Communion, Joanne suggested another simple way to share faith: “Have dinner each night as a family and make your dinner table a domestic altar. One of the most important things parents can do is to make sure the entire family gathers around the table at least once a day. This unites the family and allows them time to reconnect with one another. There should be no electronics allowed at the table. It’s a time of face-to-face connection.” “What do you mean?” another parent asked. “At Mass, we gather around the altar to celebrate the Eucharist, which means thanksgiving or gratitude. You can bring that same spirit to your family dinners. “Keep the TV off and cell phones away. “As you eat, ask simple, age-appropriate questions. “Your dinner table then becomes a domestic altar.” Joanne suggested these questions to spark faith-based conversations at dinner: - What are you grateful for today?
- How did you experience God’s love?
- Who did you help today?
- Share a quality you like about your siblings.
- If you could ask God a question, what would it be?
- What was the best part of your day?
| - How have you been blessed by God today?
- What would you like to thank God for?
- Who or what should we pray for?
- What do you need from God today?
- What was your warm fuzzy? Your cold prickly? How was God present to you in each of these experiences?
